I harness the power of storytelling to make invention commercialization and intellectual property strategy entertaining and easily understood. No two invention stories are the same. Researching and reporting what happens behind-the-scenes on the journey of an inventor — with the intention of helping the next generation — is an enviable gig.

Together, Stephen Key and I have written 1,000 articles about entrepreneurship, inventing, and the licensing business model for Forbes, Inc., Entrepreneur, and other publications online since 2007.

Our writing has also appeared in TIME, The New York Times, Fast Company, Business Insider, Fox News, Yahoo Finance, IPWatchdog, and others.

In 2015, I updated and revised Stephen’s book One Simple Idea by McGraw-Hill. With more than 900 5-star reviews on Amazon, it has been taught in MBA program at the University of Fairbanks in Alaska; the University of California at Merced, the University of the Pacific, and more.

A capable if reluctant copy editor, I also prepared Stephen’s books Sell Your Ideas With or Without a Patent, Become a Professional Inventor, and Licensing Ideas using LinkedIn for publication.

Using social media, I’ve helped transform inventRight into a beloved leader in the for-profit invention help industry. I am responsible for inventRight’s Learning Management System, the most comprehensive guide to product licensing in existence. Planning and marketing monthly events online for members of Inventors Groups of America is a whole lot of fun.

In 2019, I co-created “How to Launch a Product Without Starting a Business,” a 10-unit online-only course for the University of Newcastle in Australia. To my knowledge, it is the first and only undergraduate course devoted to product licensing.

In 2021, I joined the Center for Intellectual Property Understanding on its Communications Committee.

As a freelance reporter based in Oakland, my reporting appeared in the East Bay Express, San Francisco Chronicle, and CALIFORNIA magazine. In 2020-2021, I had the pleasure of helping hunter Mark Peterson, owner of Worldwide Trophy Adventures, on his first book, The Journey Within: A Bird Hunter’s Diary.

I began writing for my local paper, The Modesto Bee, in high school and was trained at The Daily Californian, UC Berkeley’s student newspaper.

Within the marketing and communications sphere, my specialties include invention education, content strategy, social media, and ghostwriting.
